Help And Advice:
Central Heating Pumps
Central heating pumps not only give heat in the winter but also provide cooling in the summer. The rating of the cooling performance is classed as a SEER and the rating of the heating performance is a seasonal power factor, HSPF. In the next couple of years the standards of central heating pumps will increase and will require a minimum SEER of 13 and a minimum HSPF of 7.7
The most popular makes of central heating pumps in the UK are Grunfos, Wilo and Myson. Prices obviously vary depending on the supplier but a general domestic pump can be obtained for approx. £50. It is obviously essential that the pump works to its optimum levels at all time, so replacing the pump regularly is recommended.
It is also recommended that you consult a suitably qualified person to help you if you have any problems with your central heating. It is always best to look around and get a few quotes if you do need to buy a new pump. Also making sure that you get the suitable size that will ensure your central heating pump is running at the best energy efficiency to suit your property.
If you make sure your central heating system is regularly maintained then it would be very rare that you ever have any problems. If you ever smell gas or suspect that there may be something wrong then you should contact a qualified person immediately and open all of your doors and windows and preferably leave the property until it can be thoroughly checked out to make sure everything is OK.
